AACC-CETA

Theological and Ecumenical Formation

The All Africa Conference of Churches since its inception in 1963, has had theology programme as one of its key thematic areas where it seeks to engage churches in the search for theological positioning through dialogue; accompanying its members in their prophetic engagement in their contexts; helps in capacity building and addressing contextual theologies through annual theological symposia. During the 2nd General Assembly held in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire from 2nd  - 12th  September 1969, recommended AACC employ a full-time staff to do research in the field of African Theology.

During the 5th General Assembly held in Lome, Togo in August 1987, a recommendation was made that “The AACC puts on its agenda theology, ministry, and communication as an Integrated Programme, which is appropriate to African situations, and in no bureaucratic manner.”  Profoundly, Theology, Interfaith and Ecclesial Leadership  featured in the AACC strategies up to the current strategy (2024-2028) which highlight Theology and Interfaith Relations as a key programmatic Focus Area to address theological issues on the continent through Ecumenical Formation. This has been achieved through the last nine (9) theological institutes and Annual Theological Symposia that constantly continue to nurture young theologians, church leaders and practicing theologian among others.
